Life On The Road with ALS

ALS Advocacy One Mile at a Time

Lazy Day

Run, run, run. Do, do, do. Got to get it done.

Why? Why do we run ourselves ragged? I’m not talking about work, school, or essential things that need to get done. I’m talking about the other stuff we pile on ourselves, that DIY project, the millions of other things we have on “The List.”

We had a lazy day today. Yet Meg exclaimed several times, I don’t feel right, not having anything to do. Why do we condition ourselves to this? It’s not like she hasn’t driven hundreds of miles, driven me around coordinating my play dates, lol. It’s ingrained in us, do, or lose.

I’d rather just live to be. Be genuine. Be kind. Be present. When those pauses in the action of your life happen, it’s not a glitch. It’s in the code. You are meant to sit, breathe, and recover your life force.

Embrace the lazy days. Especially when living with ALS, lord knows there are less for our caregivers as we progress. It’s not being lazy to enjoy a lazy day. It’s being honest with yourself, your mind, and your soul.

Lazy equals pause to the crazy. Enjoy the hell out of it.
