Life On The Road with ALS

ALS Advocacy One Mile at a Time

The Kindness of Strangers

In public forums, i.e., news outlets, social media, and even print, there is a pervasive divisiveness perpetuated in the world. Publicly, civil discourse has been replaced by self entitled unyielding forced beliefs. In the public sphere, where the masses consume information from a buffet without any nutritional value. They gorge on hollow calories the pundits serve from their kitchens, in the public eye.

What Meg and I have witnessed on our travels is far from that. The kindness that total strangers have bestowed on us on the road has been inspiring.

In Orlando, a gentleman jumped in to help us look for the truck keys Meg had misplaced. He had just rolled into his RV spot himself. In Atlanta, a lady loaned us a chair due to the number of visitors at the RV. Last year, with the issues, the truck had quite a few folks pitched in to help when needed, every time.

Several times, while Meg shared about ALS and our travels, individuals paid for baked goods in Chicago, meals at restaurants at several locations. Everywhere we go, we encounter beautiful people, just living their best lives. Looking out for others without expecting anything in return.

In Frankfurt Kentucky, while having some drinks and a bite, we met a gentleman by the name of Tim, passing through on business. Meg, as usual, shared our adventures. He shared about his family and mentioned he was from Franklin Tennessee. We didn’t catch his last name. When we went to close the tab, Tim had, in fact, taken care of it. Thank you, Tim NLN (no last name).

So please take a break from the buffet and grab a snack with your neighbor. Every person has something to offer, and it has nothing to do with profession or possessions. It has everything to do with your life experience. That is your true treasure.

Be kind. It costs you nothing and has the greatest value

  1. Love this so much! You left out one part; it’s the part about you guys also being the kindness to strangers that you’ve never met (kishia&dave)
