Last night, 8 July 2023,was epic! Ales for ALS, in collaboration with Alamo Brewing Co., San Antonio, TX, held a beer release. Humbled by the outpouring of love and support, I was overwhelmed, truly. This was topped off by the refreshing and delicious Juan-dering IPA created by the brewery.

The following are a few words I shared at the event:
Thank you, one and all, for joining us tonight. Who knew that all I had to do was say “Beer,” and you stopped what you’re doing to visit with me!
On a serious note, I would like to thank Alamo Brewery for joining the Ales for ALS movement. This marks the 4th brewery in Texas and the only one in San Antonio.
Ales for ALS started in 2013, raising over $5M for ALS research since its inception. Ales are crafted from a single source hop, nationwide, and internationally!
In essence, the hops from the Yakima Valley hop-farming family are not just making ales. These hops create hopes
Hopes for treatments, hopes for a cure, and ultimately hopes of spending more time’s like tonight. Time with friends and family…and of course Beer!Local News Story
.
I’m not kidding about the beer, I’m not a fan of IPA’s; you know the really hop forward ones. This one was really smooth, refreshing with hints of citrus notes. They only produced two kegs, but I’m hoping they make it in cans to sell, eventually.
Back to the evening, what can I say. I joked about folks showing up because there was beer involved. This is partially true, lol. But I was truly moved by the friends, family, and fellow ALS’ers who showed up to support.
The evening was spent enjoying being together with friends, old and new. I am sincerely not worthy of this much attention. But for ALS Awareness, I’ll share myself and embrace the incredible energy put forth last night.
Thank you, Alamo Brewery and Ales for ALS for inviting me to help support the efforts to end ALS. You have brought hope to us through the craft of transforming hops into beer. Transforming hops into hopes, as you brew up a cure for ALS!
Salude!
TJO
