Life On The Road with ALS

ALS Advocacy One Mile at a Time

A Journey of Connection and Gratitude

Meeting the ALS Community Across Our Country

As Meg and I embark on our journey across this vast and beautiful country, we made a heartfelt decision early on to connect with others in the ALS community. Our route takes us through the many states, and with each stop, we seek out fellow travelers who share our path. This mission is not just about seeing new places but about meeting the extraordinary people who, like us, live under the shadow of ALS.

There is a profound sadness that accompanies this endeavor. The reality is stark and unyielding: the first time we meet with fellow ALS travelers may, in fact, be the last. ALS progresses with a relentless speed, taking away much too readily and too soon. This is a truth we all live with, a somber companion on our journey.

And yet, despite this, we are filled with gratitude. Meg and I want to say thank you—to each and every person who has welcomed us into their lives, even if just for a fleeting moment. Thank you for gifting us your precious and limited time. We do not take your gift lightly. It is a gesture of tremendous generosity, one that humbles us deeply.

Each encounter is a blessing. We are honored to have shared moments of laughter, tears, and strength with you. These moments are etched into our hearts, serving as poignant reminders of the resilience and courage that define the ALS community. They are whispers of hope, echoes of stories that deserve to be told and retold.

The Journey Begins

Our journey began with a simple idea: to turn our travels into a tapestry of shared experiences and connections. We knew the road would be long and challenging, but we also knew it would be filled with moments of unparalleled beauty and meaning. From the bustling cities to the quiet countryside, each place holds a story, and each story adds to the richness of our journey.

Meeting Fellow Travelers

Meeting with others in the ALS community has been both heart-wrenching and uplifting. Each person we meet has a unique story, a unique battle. Despite the differences in our experiences, there is a common thread that binds us together—a thread of hope, perseverance, and an unyielding spirit.

We have learned so much from these encounters. We have learned about the different ways people cope with the challenges of ALS, about the strength that comes from community and support, and about the incredible power of human connection. These meetings have taught us to cherish every single moment, to find joy and gratitude even in the face of adversity.

A Moment of Reflection

As we reflect on our journey, we are filled with a sense of profound gratitude. We are grateful for the people we have met, for the stories they have shared, and for the moments of connection that have enriched our lives. We are grateful for the lessons we have learned and for the strength we have gained from our fellow travelers.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey. Your courage, strength, and resilience inspire us every day. We are blessed to have shared a moment with you, and we carry your stories with us as we continue on our path.

Looking Ahead

As we look ahead, we know there will be more challenges, more moments of sadness, but also more moments of joy and connection. We are committed to continuing our journey, to meeting more people, and to sharing more stories. We believe that every encounter, every shared moment, adds to the richness of our journey and to the strength of our community.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Thank you for your gift of time, for your stories, and for your strength. We are honored to walk this path with you, and we are grateful for every moment we share.

The road ahead is uncertain, but it is filled with hope and possibilities. Together, we can face the challenges of ALS, and together, we can find moments of joy and connection.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. We are blessed to have shared a moment with you.
